Any WebCell shipped before February 15, 2015 left the factory with firmware version 1.01, which can only be updated using the CellScript Simulator. The steps below will guide you through process. (Once updated, the CellScript Simulator will no longer be needed for further updates.)

These steps will update the CellScript Simulator, the WebCell firmware, and the home automation web pages. You will need to have administrator access on your Windows PC.

If you have previously installed the CellScript Simulator:
  1. Start the CellScript Simulator from the Windows Start menu.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Update...
  3. You will prompted to update the CellScript Simulator. Click "Yes".
  4. Click "OK" or "Next" as necessary to proceed through the installation process.
  5. When installation is complete, leave "Launch CellScript Simulator" checked, and click "Close".
  6. The CellScript Simulator will start and immediately prompt with "Project Update Available".
  7. Be sure to change the selection to "Yes...", then click "OK".
  8. A message box may briefly appear about copying files (sometimes it is hidden under other windows).
  9. From the Tools menu, select Update...
  10. The "Available Updates" dialog will appear with the latest update selected.
  11. Click the "Update" button at lower right.
  12. There is a very brief download followed by a message box that the update is in progress. Click "OK".
  13. There is no additional message that the update is complete, but it only takes about 5 seconds. The red LED on the WebCell will be on continuously during the update process, and turn off when it is complete.
  14. From the Tools menu, select Sync Once.
  15. The status bar at the bottom of the CellScript Simulator window will quickly flash through the web pages that are copied to the WebCell.
  16. When the status bar says "Web server ...", the update is complete.
  17. From the Tools menu, select Find Cell.
  18. Your browser will open on the WebCell home page. Be sure to click Refresh in your browser for each page so it will load the new pages just copied to the WebCell.
  19. You may close the CellScript Simulator.
If you have NOT previously installed the CellScript Simulator:
  1. Go to http://www.patersontech.com/, then select the Downloads link at the top of the home page.
  2. Under CellScript Simulator, click the Download Now button.
  3. You can choose to run the installer directly, or save it and then run it. If prompted that the file could harm your computer, continue anyway -- it won't.
  4. Click "OK" or "Next" as necessary to proceed through the installation process.
  5. When installation is complete, leave "Launch CellScript Simulator" checked, and click "Close".
  6. The CellScript Simulator will start. From the Tools menu, select Update...
  7. The "Available Updates" dialog will appear with the latest update selected.
  8. Click the "Update" button at lower right.
  9. There is a very brief download followed by a message box that the update is in progress. Click "OK".
  10. There is no additional message that the update is complete, but it only takes about 5 seconds. The red LED on the WebCell will be on continuously during the update process, and turn off when it is complete.
  11. From the Tools menu, select Sync Once.
  12. The status bar at the bottom of the CellScript Simulator window will quickly flash through the web pages that are copied to the WebCell.
  13. When the status bar says "Web server ...", the update is complete.
  14. From the Tools menu, select Find Cell.
  15. Your browser will open on the WebCell home page. Be sure to click Refresh in your browser for each page so it will load the new pages just copied to the WebCell.
  16. You may close the CellScript Simulator.
